How to Maintain a Ceramic Coated Car

By the WRPD team in Chatsworth, CA · · 5 min read

One of the best things about a ceramic coating is how easy it makes car care. At WRPD in Chatsworth we send every coated car home with a simple routine, and the customers who follow it have cars that still bead water like day one.

Here is that routine, so you can get the most out of your coating.

Wash every couple of weeks

Regular washing keeps dust and road film from building up on top of the coating. Because dirt releases so easily, a wash goes quickly.

If you drive the 118 or the 5 daily, a wash every week or two keeps the car looking its best.

Use a pH neutral soap and two buckets

A gentle, pH neutral car shampoo cleans without wearing down the coating. Use one bucket for soapy water and one for rinsing your mitt so grit stays out of the paint.

Soft microfiber wash mitts and drying towels keep the finish swirl free.

Wash in the shade and dry fully

Valley sun can dry water on the paint before you get to it, leaving spots. Wash in the morning, the evening, or in shade whenever you can.

Dry with a plush microfiber towel or a blower so no water spots are left behind.

Clean off bird droppings and sap quickly

The coating gives you extra time before droppings and sap can etch the paint. A quick spray and gentle wipe as soon as you notice them keeps everything perfect.

Keeping a small bottle of quick detailer and a clean towel in the car makes this easy.

Boost it now and then

A coating friendly topper spray every so often refreshes the slickness and water beading. It takes a few minutes and keeps the coating feeling brand new.

You can also bring the car back to our shop for a maintenance wash and decontamination to keep the coating performing at its peak.
